Yogi Adityanath, Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, has warned that those who celebrate Pakistan’s victory over India in the Super 12 match at the T20 World Cup in Dubai may face sedition charges by his government.
The Chief Minister’s office took to Twitter to write in Hindi, “After the T-20 World Cup match played between India and Pakistan on October 24, some anti-social elements used indecent words against the Indian team and there was a disruption of peace through anti-national remarks.”

“In this context, as per reports gathered so far, five cases have been registered in Agra, Bareilly, Budaun and Sitapur and cases have been registered against seven persons, of which 5 have been taken into custody. Investigations are going on and based on evidence, further action will be taken,” the tweet further said.
Following the T-20 World Cup match against Pakistan on October 24, state police arrested five people for allegedly using foul language against the Indian cricket team.

Furthermore, three engineering students from J&K were arrested in Agra for allegedly engaging in “cyber terrorism” by updating their WhatsApp status to congratulate Pakistan on its triumph. All of these students have been charged with cyber terrorism under section 66F of the Information Technology Act, which carries a life sentence if convicted.
Sections 153 A (promoting enmity between different groups) and 505 (1)(B) of the Indian Penal Code (an act intended to cause, or likely to cause, fear or alarm to the public or aimed at inciting a person to commit an offence against the state) are the additional charges levelled against the three students from J&K in the FIR.
After the match, Uttar Pradesh Police said they had arrested seven people in five cases in the districts of Agra, Bareilly, Badaun, and Sitapur for making anti-national statements.
