Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday visited AIIMS to meet the family of a 13-year-old girl who was raped and tortured in Delhi on August 4. Before his visit, the CM, in a Twitter post, described the act as barbaric and promised that the accused will be punished. According to reports, the girl was bleeding and had severe wounds on her body when she was taken to a hospital on Wednesday.

Arvind Kejriwal tweeted, “The barbaric assault “has shaken me to the core. Such predators roaming free cannot be tolerated.”

The girl was allegedly sexually assaulted and attacked with
a sharp object at her home, according to a NDTV report. Police has registered an attempt to murder case besides one under a stringent law for sexual crimes on children.

“An FIR under
section 307 (attempt to murder) and POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual
Offences)  Act has been registered and further
investigation is underway,” a senior police officer told NDTV.

According to reports, preliminary investigation revealed that the girl was alone at
home and her parents were away at work when she was assaulted. Police also say that she was hit on her head and face with
a sharp object multiple times.
