'Speak English like Shashi Tharoor', promises app; Cong leader isn't happy
- The app used Tharoor's photo and name without his permission to promote their English speaking course
- Tharoor said he does not endorse the learning app in any way
- The advertisement of the app said: 'Speak English as fluently as Shashi Tharoor'
Congress leader Shashi Tharoor threatened to take legal action against an English learning app, which claimed that it can make students 'Speak English as fluently as Shashi Tharoor.' The app used his photo and name without his permission, according to Tharoor, to promote their course.
Taking to Twitter, Tharoor said he does not endorse the learning app in any way and said he will take 'legal action to stop the misuse' of his name and image for commercial purposes. Along with his tweet, he shared a screenshot of the English learning app, Blackboard Radio's advertisement, which had Tharoor's picture too.
He wrote: "This has been drawn to my attention by many unwitting students who were misled by this app. I wish to make it clear that I have NO connection to this app &have NOT endorsed it in any way. I will take legal action to stop the misuse of my name & image for commercial purposes."
However, for his tweet, Tharoor received little flak on the platform as users pointed that the app was not saying that the Congress leader is endorsing their lessons and said that his picture is being used as just an example. While some users pointed out that the Thiruvananthapuram MP should actually start taking English lessons online.
While a user wrote that he wants to "speaks English as fluently as" Tharoor.
The Congress leader has often left people in awe with his English and his vocabulary and besides being a political leader, he has published many books, including 'Why I am a Hindu' and 'The Great Indian Novel.'
