Shiv Sena’s mouthpiece “Saamana” said that all political parties which do not agree with the BJP shall come under the umbrella of UPA and act in a united manner. This statement was made because of their belief that Congress is unable to be an effective opposition to BJP.

Sanjay Raut, the chief spokesperson of Shiv Sena said it is time for the UPA’s expansion.

The representation of Congress in Maharashtra said that Shiv Sena is not a part of the UPA and shall refrain from commenting on it.

Shiv Sena’s spokesperson further said that the ‘rulers’ in Delhi are indifferent towards the agitated farmers and blamed the ‘feeble’ and ‘disintegrated’ opposition party for this indifference.

Saamna further said that the opposition party should introspect rather than blaming the government. It highlighted the need for a mass appeal to the opposition party as it is currently standing on the brink.

The Marathi newspaper said that Rahul Gandhi is putting up a good fight against the government. But UPA is currently acting as an NGO and its members too, do not seem to take the farmer’s protests seriously.

Shiv Sena, YSR Congress, Biju Janata Dal, Samajwadi Party, Akali Dal, Telangana Rashtra Samithi, Bahujan Samaj Party and the Janta Dal (Secular) are all political parties that do not agree with the BJP and shall be on a united front through the UPA to provide an alternative, the newspaper said. It added, “The Bhartiya Janta Party has a strong leadership under Amit Shah and Narendra Modi while the UPA does not.”

Sanjay Raut diplomatically said that the UPA was led by Sonia Gandhi in a very able manner all these years but now is the time to widen the scope of UPA.

State Congress leader Naseem Khan said that the parties which had faith in Sonia Gandhi’s leadership and do not agree with BJP’s ideology are welcome to join the UPA.
