On Tuesday evening, members of Phogat’s family, including her brother Dhaka, her brother-in-law Aman Punia, and her nephew Monindar Phogat, arrived in Goa. On Wednesday, they filed a written complaint at the Anjuna Police Station charging Sangwan and Sukhvinder of murder. The pair “had perpetrated Phogat’s murder to seize her property and it was a political conspiracy,” according to the four-page complaint filed by Dhaka.

The complaint further claimed that Phogat had disclosed to her family members more than three months prior that she frequently had muscle stiffness and difficulty moving after supper. Dhaka reported on Wednesday that “her PA had fired the cook and instructed him to handle the food requirements.” He claimed that Phogat had told her family that she was travelling from her hometown of Hisar to Chandigarh, but that the trip to Goa was not part of the plan, and that this was a “pre-planned murder.”

When we asked him for the key to her second apartment in Gurugram, he said it belonged to him”, Dhaka claimed.
