Sourav Ganguly, the President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), on Wednesday tweeted about ‘planning to start something’ and a ‘new chapter in life’. The cryptic message triggered speculation on social media that the 49-year-old is quitting his job at the cricket body and joining politics.

“Today, I am planning to start something that I feel will probably help a lot of people. I hope you continue your support as I enter this chapter of my life,” the BCCI President said in the Twitter post.

While social media users speculated the former India captain’s next move, BCCI secretary Jay Shah provided some clarity. He told ANI that Sourav Ganguly has not resigned as the president.

The year 2022 marks Sourav Ganguly’s 30th anniversary of the start of his journey in cricket.

“2022 marks the 30th year since the start of my journey with cricket in 1992. Since then, Cricket has given me a lot. Most importantly, it has given me the support of all of you. I want to thank every single person who has been a part of the journey, supported me, and helped me reach where I am today,” the cricket legend wrote in the Twitter post.

Only last month, Ganguly had hosted Union Home Minister Amit Shah at his home in Kolkata. Days later he spoke of his close relation with Chief Minister and TMC head Mamata Banerjee.

Ganguly, former Indian cricket team captain, also showered praise on minister and city mayor Firhad Hakim describing him as a person who can be approached by anyone at any time of the day.

“Our honourable Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is a person very close to me. I had approached her to help up this institute,” he said at the inauguration programme of a private hospital in Kolkata.

The former India batter also rubbished all the speculation of him joining the BJP after the Amit Shah dinner.

“Speculation is rife… but I have known him (Amit Shah) since 2008. While playing, I used to meet him. There’s nothing more than that,” he said.

Ganguly has been at the helm of the BCCI since 2019. He served as the President of the Cricket association of Bengal too.
