Isak Munda, a daily wage labourer from
Odisha’s Sambalpur district lost all means of livelihood when a lockdown was
imposed in March 2020 following the COVID-19 pandemic. Little did he know that
the videos he made out of boredom would earn him several times more than what
he did with his work.

The tribal man’s interest in videos
started when he was rendered jobless. To pass time, he would browse through
YouTube videos. According to News18, he then decided to make videos of his
own during the lockdown

“I had taken a loan of ₹ 3,000 to buy my first little
smartphone to make videos,” Isak Munda told the website. Inspired by the
videos of food bloggers that he watched, Munda decided to film himself eating.

sambar, a tomato and green chillies. The video has clocked over half a million
views till date.

Munda said that he makes videos about
life in his poor household and village, showing how people survive and what
they eat. “I am happy my videos are received so well by many. I am making a
decent income now,” he added.

then on. Today, Munda’s YouTube channel ‘Isak Munda Eating’ has more than 7
lakh subscribers. And cash is flowing in. In August 2020, Munda received ₹ 5 lakh income from YouTube,
according to a local TV channel.

With money, came security. Munda built a
house and pulled his family out of a financial mess. But, that’s not all. He
has also decided to extend help to needy people

Also,
Munda says money is not the only consideration in making the videos. He wants
to create awareness among people about his traditions and problems that people
face.
