Sugnu assembly constituency has Kangujam Ranjit Singh of the Indian National Congress (INC) taking on M. Binod Singh of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Kakyenpaibam Muktasana Singh (Independent) this year in the Manipur assembly elections. 

Kangujam Ranjit Singh of the INC had won the Sugnu seat in 2017 when the INC swept Manipur winning 28 of Manipur’s 60 assembly seats. Kangujam Ranjit Singh had beaten his closest rival Yumnam Jiban Singh by over 3,133 votes. Yumnam Jiban Singh had contested that election on a Congress ticket.

In 2012, the seat was won by Kangujam Ranjit Singh of the INC. 

Sugnu falls under the Thoubal district and the Outer Manipur Lok Sabha constituency, which is made up of 28 assembly seats.

Lorho S. Pfoze of  Naga People’s Front represented Outer Manipur as a member of Parliament in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Pfoze defeated Houlim Shokhopao Mate from the BJP with a margin of  73,782 votes.

The Sugnu assembly constituency voted in the second phase of the Manipur elections on March 5, 2022, along with 21 other constituencies. 

Results will be declared on March 10, along with those for elections in four other states, including Uttar Pradesh.
