Sunil Gavaskar, while commentating for IPL 2022, jokingly asked his British counterpart Alan Wilkins about the Kohinoor diamond. The two laughed over it and so did their followers on social media.

Gavaskar and Wilkins were in the commentary box for the match between Rajasthan Royals and Lucknow Super Giants. During a break, the broadcaster showed an aerial view of Mumbai’s Marine Drive. The iconic three kilometre-long Promenade is also known as the ‘Queen’s Necklace’ because when viewed at night from an elevated point, the street lights resemble a string of pearls.

The former India opener, on air, made a reference to the Kohinoor, one of the largest cut diamonds in the world, which was taken from India by the British and placed in  the crown of The Queen Mother.

“We are still awaiting the Kohinoor diamond,” Gavaskar said jokingly. He and Wilkins laughed for a while before the latter said that he knew the ‘little master’ will bring Kohinoor into the conversation.
