India’s COVID infection surge reached the Supreme Court on Monday with many staff members testing positive for the virus and court proceedings being delayed. “All the benches which are scheduled to sit at 10:30 am will sit at 11:30 am and those scheduled to sit at 11 am will sit at 12 noon in Supreme Court, today,” reports ANI quoting the additional registrar. Initially ANI, quoting SC sources, had reported that the judges would be working from home for the day.
The COVID-19 numbers are spiralling in the country with 16 states emerging as leading contributors to the daily spike.
The states where infections are surging are Maharashtra, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Haryana, Punjab, Kerala, Telangana, Uttarakhand, Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal. While most of these states have imposed night curfew and other restrictions, experts say more stringent measures may be needed to rein in the numbers
