Swarms of crop-eating locusts descended on Gurugram, Haryana, Saturday morning. Multiple videos surfaced on the internet shot by the residents of the Delhi-NCR city where desert locusts were seen flying in massive clusters.
Visuals of locusts, who have earlier destroyed crops in various parts of western and Central India, have came from Sector-5, Palam Vihar and along Gurugram-Dwarka expressway.
The city administration last evening issued guidelines for the residents, asking them to keep their windows shut locusts were sighted in an adjoning district.
People were also asked to make clanging sounds to ward off the crop-destroying insects and farmers were told to keep their pumps ready for sparying insecticides.
Desert locusts have been destroying crops in many parts of western and central India, spearing into Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh and Punjab now, after Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Haryana. Locusts are voracious eaters and can destroy huge field of crops in hours.
