The state of Haryana was formed on November 1, 1966, as the 17th state of the Indian Union. With the passage of the Punjab Reorganization Act, 1966, Haryana was carved out of Punjab, on linguistic lines. 

Terming the state as a “symbol of prosperity and progress,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi wished the people of Haryana on the occasion.

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar addressed state residents on the occasion.

“My message to the beloved people of Haryana on the occasion of the 55th state formation day,” he tweeted.

Several other states attained statehood in different years on November 1. These include Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Kerala.

President Ram Nath Kovind wished the people of these states on their state formation day.
