Born on September 27, 1907 in Lyallpur, Western Punjab,
India (currently in Pakistan), Bhagat Singh, renowned for his role as a
revolutionary during the Indian freedom struggle, veered towards the direction
of protests and demonstrations against the British rule in India during his
youth.

Completing his education in Lahore in the-then undivided
India, he worked as a writer-editor in Amritsar for newspapers which were published
in Punjabi as well as Urdu.

Curtains were drawn on Singh’s live rather early, as he mistakenly killed Junior British officer JP Saunders in December, 1928
in place of Police Superintendent James Scott, responsible for the death of
Lala Lajpat Rai – an eminent Indian freedom fighter and politician – who they
originally had set out to assassinate.

In 1929, after bombing the Central Legislative Assembly in Delhi
to protest against the Defence of India Act, Singh surrendered and was hanged
at the age of 23 years in March, 1931.
