England paceman James Anderson, on Monday, claimed his 1,000th first-class wicket in a County Championship match between Lancashire and Kent. The wicket came off a trademark Anderson out-swinger that was edged behind by batsman Heino Kuhn at Old Trafford. The catch was completed by Lancashire keeper Dane Vilas.

It was the 38-year-old paceman’s fifth scalp of Kent’s innings and saw him notch up another rare milestone in a career in which he has broken England Test records for appearances and wickets.

Anderson finished with figures of 7/19 in 10 overs as Kent was bundled for just 74 runs in 26.2 overs. He also received a standing ovation from the crowd. He made his FC debut in 2002 and has played 261* matches till now.

England Cricket tweeted an emoji of a goat, which has become shorthand for ‘greatest of all time’, adding: “Congratulations on 1,000 first-class wickets.”

Anderson, who turns 39 this month, made his first-class debut for Lancashire in 2002.

Most of his first-class wickets have come in Test matches — he has 617 wickets in 162 Tests, just two behind retired Indian leg-spinner Anil Kumble, who is third on the all-time bowling list.

His victims in the County match were: Zak Crawley (0), Jordan Cox (1), Ollie Robinson (0), Jack Leaning (2), Heino Kuhn (0), Matt Milnes (1), Harry Podmore (3).

He made his Test debut against Zimbabwe at Lord’s in May 2003 and last played a Test for England against New Zealand in June 2021.

In the 50-over format, he made his debut against Australia in December 2002 and his last ODI match was against Afghanistan in March 2015.

In his 162-match career, he has 617 wickets with the best being 11/71. He boasts of an economy rate of 2.83. He also has 24 four-wicket hauls, 30 5-wicket hauls and 3 10-wicket hauls.
