Chelsea’s
manager Thomas Tuchel has revealed that Romelu Lukaku might not be in the
starting line-up in the European champions home fixture against Malmo.

The Belgian
forward is on a six-game goal drought in the Premier League for which he has
received criticism from Italian legend Paolo Di Canio.

Lukaku was
brought in as Chelsea’s star signing
in the summer transfer window for £97.5m and
given his prolific goal scoring run before joining the blues, he was considered
as the final missing piece of Tuchel’s eleven.

In the pre-match
conference Chelsea’s manager spoke on the issue and said, “We are in the process of adapting to each other, I feel
Romelu is a bit overplayed. I think he played in too many competitions over the
summer. He played the Nations League and he is a fantastic athlete and such a
competitive guy that he never takes it easy.”

“He wanted to have a good outcome
for the European Championship with Belgium and now in the Nations League it was
a huge match for him. If that does not work well, he always puts it on his
shoulders,” he added.

Tuchel is not worried
about the star forward’s form and believes he will rediscover his rhythm very
soon. Lukaku has participated in several games this season and it might be time
to give him some much needed rest.

Thomas went on to say,
“I feel him mentally tired. Not that we have a
huge concern, just that he does not fully enjoy playing without a second
thought. He is overplayed a little bit. It is difficult to judge whether he
needs a break or is it better to keep him on the pitch?”

While Lukaku did enjoy
a prolific start to the season upon his return to Chelsea as he scored four
goals in his first four appearances. However, the question is where is it going
wrong?

Tuchel was asked
whether changing his traditional system of 3-4-3 to one that allows more
attacking threat would be able to help increase Chelsea’s scoring options.

To
this the manager replied, “We can take
this step when we are fully convinced and when it’s the moment to put in more
offensive players, but it’s also about balance. This game is about balance and
we found a balance. There are also a lot of reasons to stay in our structure.”

Chelsea sit on the second spot in Group
H, just behind Italian giants Juventus and will be looking for a win to keep on
contesting for the number one spot in the table.
