Thoubal assembly constituency has Leitanthem Basanta Singh of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) taking on Okram Ibobi Singh of the Indian National Congress (INC) and Irom Chaoba Singh of the Janata Dal (United) this year in the Manipur assembly elections. 

Okram Ibobi Singh of the Congress had won the Thoubal seat in 2017 when the INC swept Manipur winning 28 of Manipur’s 60 assembly seats. Okram Ibobi Singh had beaten his closest rival Leitanthem Basanta Singh by over 10,470 votes. Leitanthem Basanta Singh had contested that election on a BJP ticket.

In 2012, the seat was won by Okram Ibobi Singh of the INC. 

Thoubal falls under the Thoubal district and the Inner Manipur Lok Sabha constituency, which is made up of 32 assembly seats.

Dr. Rajkumar Ranjan Singh of BJP represented Inner Manipur as a member of Parliament in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Dr. Rajkumar defeated Oinam Nabakishore Singh from the INC with a margin of 17,755 votes.

The Thoubal assembly constituency voted in the second phase of the Manipur elections on March 5, 2022, along with 21 other constituencies. 

Results will be declared on March 10, along with those for elections in four other states, including Uttar Pradesh.
