At least 10 persons have been reported dead in a three-storied building that collapsed at Maharashtra’s Thane, ANI reported. The incident took place in the Patel Compound area in Bhiwandi, Thane.

Eight people have lost their lives in the Bhiwandi building collapse incident, the Thane Municipal Corporation PRO said in a statement, ANI reported.

As per reports, 25 people have been rescued by the locals. At least 20-25 people are feared to be trapped at the site, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) said in a statement, early on Monday. 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has condoled the loss of lives, saying, “Saddened by the building collapse in Bhiwandi, Maharashtra. Condolences to the bereaved families. Praying for a quick recovery of those injured. Rescue operations are underway and all possible assistance is being provided to the affected.”

President Ram Nath Kovind has also expressed grief over the death of people. He said “The loss of lives in the building collapse incident at Bhiwandi, Maharashtra is quite distressing. In this hour of grief, my thoughts & prayers are with victims. I wish speedy recovery of injured. Local authorities coordinating rescue & relief efforts.”
