The Indian men’s hockey team and wrestler Ravi Kumar Dahiya will look to win a medal for the country on Thursday, August 5.

The men’s hockey team is eyeing their first Olympic medal after 41 years. They will be up against Germany in the bronze medal playoff. India had lost 2-5 to world champions Belgium in the semifinal.

Ravi Kumar, the son of a farmer from Haryana’s Nahri village, first outclassed Colombia’s Tigreros Urbano (13-2) in his opener and then outwitted Bulgaria’s Georgi Valentinov Vangelov (14-4).

Competing in his maiden Olympics, he will now face two-time world champion Zaur Uguev of the ROC in the final. He would become the second Indian to win an individual gold medal at the Olympics. Shooter Abhinav Bindra is the only other Indian to have won an individual gold.

Wrestler Vinesh Phogat (53kg) will look to make amends for the injury-forced heartbreak in the Rio Games five years back. The top medal contender will open her campaign against Sofia Magdalena Mattsson of Sweden.

Indian golfer Aditi Ashok got off to a brilliant start at the Olympic Games, carding a four-under 67 in the opening round for a share of the second spot. She will be in contention at the golf event along with compatriot Diksha Dagar.
