Manchester United 0-1 Liverpool, December 2000

This is one of Liverpool’s most famous wins over United, as the scousers ended the Red Devils’ two-year unbeaten streak at Old Trafford. It was Danny Murphy’s free-kick before the half-time that sealed the deal for Liverpool. It also completed the double over United of winning home and away, which was their first in five years.

It was Eric Cantona’s comeback game after serving an eight-month ban. It was a forgetful game for the Red Devils at Old Trafford in what had been one of their worst seasons, but it was a famous victory for the scousers. Penalties were awarded three times to the visitors in the game of which two were converted by Gerrard. Luis Suarez scored the third, and it opened up an intriguing title race.
