The omicron variety of the coronavirus is rapidly spreading in India. The total number of people infected in the country with the new strain surpassed 100 on Friday, 26 of which were reported in the last 24 hours.

Friday was the fourth consecutive day that the country’s omicron tally increased by a significant amount. On Tuesday and Wednesday, 12 new omicron infections were discovered across India, while 14 new cases were discovered on Thursday.

Due to the emergence of the significantly modified version, which is considered to be resistant to existing vaccines, the Union health ministry has advised people to postpone all non-essential travel.

Here’s how widespread the omicron strain is across the states:

Maharashtra: It has the most omicron infections, at 40. On Friday, eight of these cases were reported. Six new omicron cases have been reported in Pune, with one each in Mumbai and Kalyan Dombivli.

All of the patients were between the ages of 29 and 45.

In Maharashtra, the city of Mumbai has the most omicron cases (14), followed by Pimpri Chinchwad with ten, Pune rural with six, Pune Municipal Corporation with two, Kalyan Dombivali with two, Osmanabad with two, and Latur, Buldhana, Nagpur, and Vasai Virar with one each.

Delhi: The nation’s capital at present has the country’s second-highest number of omicron instances. After 12 instances were reported on Friday, Delhi now has 22 cases of the novel coronavirus type.

According to Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain, ten of the 22 patients have been discharged.

Most of the patients are completely vaccinated and asymptomatic, according to doctors at the Lok Nayak Hospital, where a special unit has been set up for isolating and treating suspected omicron cases.

Rajasthan: Rajasthan has been engulfed by the fast-spreading omicron variant. So far, 17 cases of the novel coronavirus variety have been reported in the state.

According to an official statement, 16 new coronavirus disease (Covid-19) cases and one fatality due to the condition were reported in Rajasthan on Friday.

The additional mortality and cases brought the state’s death toll to 8,960, and the infection count to 9,55,189, according to the report.

Telangana: According to the state health department, at least eight instances of the novel coronavirus variant omicron have been reported in Telangana so far.

Director of Public Health Srinivasa Rao said at a press briefing on Friday that nine cases had been detected at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad, one of which had travelled to West Bengal.

Rao went on to say that all of the omicron-positive patients are from other countries.

Karnataka: So far, the state has seen eight occurrences of the Omicron variety. K Sudhakar, Karnataka’s health minister, said on Friday that the state government is being careful and is tracing the contacts of all eight  cases to ensure that the disease does not spread quickly.

The state is also monitoring the borders with Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Kerala, the minister stated, as the number of cases in Maharashtra has increased.

Kerala: Two more cases of the omicron variant were reported in the southern state on Friday, bringing the total number of cases to seven, according to health minister Veena George.

The novel strain of the virus was discovered in an elderly couple who had recently arrived in Ernakulam from the United Arab Emirates.

The state’s first omicron case was discovered on December 12 in Ernakulam district, when a person who had recently returned from the United Kingdom tested positive. On December 15, four more cases were confirmed.

Gujarat (7 cases), Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, and Chandigarh are among the other Indian states where omicron has spread (one case each).
