Trinamool Congress MP Nusrat Jahan on Wednesday released a statement, in which she opened up about her separation with husband Nikhil Jain. The statement said that her marriage was invalid in India as it was based on Turkish laws. The statement further added that the relationship can be called a live-in relationship at best thus, a divorce is not needed.

The Bengali actor also alleged that her belongings and finances were mishandled and are held back illegally, reported ANI.

“Being on foreign land, as per Turkish Marriage Regulation, the -ceremony is invalid. Moreover, since it was an interfaith marriage, it requires validation under Special Marriage Act in India, which did not happen. As per the court of law, it is not a Marriage, but a relationship or a live-in relationship.”

The separation happened long back but I chose not to disclose it as I wanted to keep my private life to myself, the statement further read

The TMC leader also said that her visit to any place for business or for the purpose of leisure should not concern anyone with whom she has separated and clarified that she took care of all her expenses herself. 

Nusrat also clarified her stance about financing her sister’s education. “I have solely borne the expenses for my sister’s education and my family’s well-being, from day one, as they have been my responsibility,” she said. 

In an apparent reference to her now estranged husband Nikhil, the statement said, “the one who claims to be “rich” and “been used by me” has been taking money from my account by accessing my bank accounts illegally and by illegitimate means at odd-hours of the night, even post-separation.

The actor further added that the matter has been registered with the concerned banking and police authorities.

The statements also claimed that all her Nusrat’s personal belongings such as accessories, clothes, bags, and family jewellery were held illegally by Nikhil and he still has returned it back.

Media reports of Nusrat and Nikhil’s separation and her affair with co-star Yash Dasgupta had been doing rounds for quite some time now. The duo was spotted in Ajmer in January. 

Nikhil Jain in a civil case against Nusrat Jahan claimed that we the TMC MP wants to be with someone else and that he does not want to keep any relation with her in future.
