Prime Minister Narendra Modi, appreciated the recently released film ‘The Kashmir Files’, and on Tuesday said more movies like this should be made so people can become aware of the truth.

Modi was addressing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) parliamentary party meeting before the day’s proceedings began in the parliament. There he spoke about the role of the film industry when it came to presenting history.

He said “People who always raise the flag of freedom of expression are restless. Instead of reviewing on facts, the campaign is being been run to discredit it…”

Modi noted that there are several important chapters in Indian history like the Partition or the 1957 Emergency on which no authentic films have been made, and added like movies like ‘The Kashmir Files’ were important for people to know the truth.

He noted that the movie was being outright discredited rather than being critiqued on facts or art.

Modi added “The film has shown the truth which has been suppressed for years, Prime Minister said. Those who have problem with what is being shown in the movie should come out with their own version of the facts. Truth should be brought in the right form before the country. The truth prevailed in Kashmir Files”. He further said “The Kashmir Files is a very good movie. All of you should watch it. More movies like Gandhi and Kashmiri Files need to be made for people to know the truth”.

Recently, states ruled by the BJP have made the film free from entertainment tax. Several chief ministers have openly backed the movie and on Tuesday, Uttar Pradesh, where the BJP won a second time, also declared the movie tax free.
