Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday slammed the Central government over workers’ plight. “First, they (the Centre) imposed the Tughlaqi lockdown and brought crores of workers on the road,” he tweeted.
“Then, they made it difficult for them to withdraw MGNREGA earnings, their only support, from banks,” his tweet roughly translated from Hindi read.
“The Modi government is only about lip service, it’s crushing workers’ rights,” he added.
Gandhi also attached a news report according to which a worker has to spend Rs 6 to go to a post office. They’ve to spend Rs 31 to visit a bank and Rs 67 to go to an ATM to withdraw cash.”

The former Congress president has repeatedly criticised the Centre over handling of the COVID-19 pandemic and the issues associated with it.
