Jack Patrick Dorsey, CEO of Twitter, announced on Monday that the microblogging website has donated $15 million to three non-governmental organisations- Care, Aid-India and Sewa International USA- to help them fight the COVID-19 crisis in India.

In a tweet, he said that the amount has been split into three parts, in which Care received $10 million while Aid India and Sewa International USA has been given $2.5 million each.

Twitter said in a statement that the amount of $10 million will help CARE’s immediate action to help address the deadly second wave, which has made India’s condition miserable.

Twitter said, “Funds will be used to supplement government efforts by setting up temporary COVID-19 care centres, providing oxygen, PPE kits and other critically needed emergency supplies for frontline workers; and addressing vaccine hesitancy and helping ensure that people get vaccinated, particularly in remote, marginalised communities in India.”

Sandeep Khadkekar, Sewa International’s vice president for marketing and fund development thanked Twitter for their support. Sewa International is a non-profit service organisation,which is based in San Francisco. 

So far, Houston-headquartered Sewa USA has raised $17.5 million in funds to help India battle the COVID pandemic, which has left 22,992,517 infected and 249,992 dead in the country as of now.
