Friday marks 10 years of India winning the 2011 Cricket World Cup. On this day in 2011, the then captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni hit a six to give India its second cricket World Cup trophy.

The tournament was held in India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. Although team India were considered favourites before the tournament began, they faced some stiff competition from teams such as England, South Africa, Australia and Sri Lanka in the final.

They started their campaign by defeating Bangladesh and went on to draw and lose against England and South Africa respectively. India comfortably defeated Netherland and Ireland in the group stage to qualify for the knockouts and eventually lift the trophy.
