The websites of several international media websites, including CNN, The Guardian, and the Financial Times, were down on Tuesday in a major internet outage, AFP reported. UK government website gov.uk was also down.

Preliminary reports suggest a technical glitch in a private CDN (Content Delivery Network) causing outage, ANI reported.

Messages such as “Error 503 Service Unavailable” and “connection failure” appeared on the websites of CNN, the Financial Times, The Guardian and France’s Le Monde newspaper.

The BBC and the New York Times were temporarily inaccessible, but later returned. Meanwhile, the White House website had an error message but was available again later.

Down Detector, which specialises in internet access problems, said the outages were due to a massive glitch in Fastly.

Fastly is a content delivery network that helps websites speed up loading times and present their content to users. Its clients include Deliveroo, Pinterest and Shazam.
