The Una Assembly Constituency
has Satpal Singh Satti of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Satpal Singh
Raizada from the Indian National Congress (INC), Rajiv Gautam of the Aam Aadmi
Party (AAP) contesting for this year’s Himachal Pradesh Assembly Elections. 

Himachal Pradesh has historically been an anti-incumbent state, with the BJP and Congress taking power alternately since 1985. This year, the Aam Aadmi Party hopes to change the political system in Himachal Pradesh. Arvind Kejriwal’s party has promised to create 6 lakh government jobs and to pay unemployment benefits of Rs 3,000 per month. He also stated that previous pension plans would be reinstated.

The BJP had won 44 of Himachal’s 68 assembly constituencies last time and the Congress had won 21. The CPI (M) had won one seat. A party needs to win 35 seats for a majority to form the government in the state.

In 2017, Satpal Singh Raizada
of the Congress defeated Vivek Sharma of the BJP by 3,196 votes. Ravi Kumar of
the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and independent candidates Gulzar Singh and Rajiv
Gautam also contested the 2017 election. 

Una is one of the 68 assembly constituencies in Himachal Pradesh. Una falls under the Una district and Hamirpur Lok Sabha Constituency. Una has more than 85,000 eligible voters.

In 2012, Satpal Singh Satti of the BJP defeated Satpal Singh Raizada of the Congress by 4,746 votes. Gurnam Singh of the CPI (M), Kamal Dutt of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), O.P Rattan of All India Trinamool Congress (AITMC) and an independent candidate, Raj Kumar, also contested the HP Assembly Elections in 2012.

Himachal Pradesh votes in a single round on November 12. Results will be announced on December 8.
