The
United Nations on Friday said that it has asked United Arab Emirates (UAE) to
provide evidence proving that Dubai’s princess Sheikha Latifa is still alive. The conversation held between UN’s High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) and UAE’s diplomatic mission in Geneva on Thursday at the backdrop of a ‘worrying’ video
of princess describing her deplorable condition surfaced online earlier this
week, reported AFP.

“We raised the concern with the permanent mission here in Geneva and asked for proof of life,” OHCHR spokeswoman Liz Throssell told media adding that the wing requested more information and clarification on Sheikha Latifa’s current situation on priority.

In a self-shot
footage released by BBC, Princess Latifa, daughter of Dubai’s Sheikh Mohammed
bin Rashid Al Maktoum, disclosed that she is being held captive without access
to medical or legal help and is unsure of she will remain alive.

According to the video, Latifa recorded the videos in a bathroom of villa where she is being held hostage. She filmed these videos on a phone secretly given to her a year after she was forced back in Dubai and sent these secret messages to her friends.

The video was made public after princess’ friends raised concern that they stopped receiving secret messages from her.

As per reports, princess Latifa attempted to flee from her family in 2018 but was caught by Emirati commandos on the coast in India. The yacht they were sailing in was intercepted and stopped.

Latifa thrashed and struggled against the guards but was drugged and taken into captivity in a vila, said a BBC report.
