BR Meena,
Inspector General (IG) of the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) who was
accused of harassing a woman, has been given a clean chit by an investigation
team led by additional director general, PAC, Ajay Anand. Inspector General BR
Meena is currently posted in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh.

The
investigating committee probing the allegations against Meena has submitted its
findings to Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police (DGP) Mukul Goel,
Hindustan Times quoted a senior police official as saying.

The police
official said that the complainant and their family retracted their complaint a
few days after making the accusation on Twitter on July 30. A written apology
was also issued to the investigation committee on behalf of the family wherein
they family members claimed that the tweet wasn’t authentic.

Inspector
General BR Meena was being investigated after a man from Ghaziabad alleged on
Twitter that the Indian Police Services (IPS) officer had harassed his
daughter.

“BR Meena
IPS 97 batch, IG PAC Allahabad calls my daughter in late night hours and
threatens her from different numbers. Govt take action against him (sic),” the
complainant, identified as Ashok Kumar, alleged.

On social
media, the complainant identified himself as a retired government official living
in Ghaziabad. Other details about the complainant or his daughter could not be
known except that the Twitter account was created in the month of July itself.

While
making his accusation, Ashok Kumar also tagged the post to the Twitter handles
of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and DGP Mukul Goel.  

Responding
to the allegations, the UP police took to social media to say that DGP Mukul
Goel directed ADG PAC to “conduct an inquiry” into the matter and submit a
report. Inspector General BR Meena has been given a clean chit following this
investigation.
