The Uttar Pradesh panchayat elections 2021 are being keenly followed as they are expected to be an indicator of the Assembly elections due in the state next year, The Yogi Adityanath-led government recently introduced a rotational system of reservation. This means that if a seat was reserved for a particular caste or tribe, then this time the seat could be allotted to another category.

As per the new rotational system, the seats for the categories will be reserved on the basis of their population. Here’s all you need to know about the rotational reservation system:

* The rotational formula was introduced by Chief Minister Adityanath in February. According to the formula, the seats for the categories will be reserved on the basis of their population in a particular region.

* The seats that had been reserved for Scheduled Castes (SC) or SC women will either not be reserved at all in 2021 or reserved for Other Backward Castes.

*”Out of total gram panchayat seats, 330 will be reserved for STs, 12,045 for SCs and 15,712 for OBCs. This reservation is on the basis of percentage of their population,” Manoj Kumar Singh, additional chief secretary, panchayati raj, told PTI.

* Preference would be given to seats that have never been reserved so far.

* The government has also found two Zila panchayat seats which were never reserved for SCs and OBCs till date, while seven were never reserved for women.

*The district magistrate will publish the list of seats between March 2 to 3 and the final list, after all the objections are cleared, will be published around March 10 to 12.
