At least 4 people and seven animals died in a fire that broke out in 62 hectares of forest area in Uttarakhand on Saturday. 

“12,000 guards and fire watchers of state forest dept deployed to douse fire. Fire destroyed property worth Rs 37 lakhs so far,”  Principal Chief Conservator told ANI. 

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat on Sunday called an emergency meeting over the forest fires. 

Union Home Minister Amit Shah said in a statement, “To take control over forest fire in Uttarakhand, Central government has given orders to deploy NDRF teams and provide helicopter to the Uttarakhand government.”
