Mumbai captain Prithvi Shaw suffered an injury while fielding at the slip during the Vijay Hazare Trophy final match against Uttar Pradesh on Sunday. Shaw had been playing remarkably this season, as one of the highest run-scorers.
Shaw was at the slip, trying to stop a run hit by Uttar Pradesh opener Madhav Kaushik, when the ball hit his shin. Shaw, who seemed to be in serious pain, was carried off the field.
The following over, he was seen hobbling around the boundary ropes. It is a big blow to the side if Shaw, who is considered one of the best batsmen in the team, is unable to come out to bat today.
The cricketer has been playing exceptionally well this tournament, he has scored three centuries and one double century this season. His latest performances made him a contender for the ODI series against England if Rohit Sharma wishes to take a break, as the reports suggest.
Looking at the finale, Mumbai took the wicket of Uttar Pradesh captain Karan Sharma, who got dismissed without scoring a run. Sharma’s wicket was taken by young spinner Tanush Kotian, who played remarkably well in his last match against Karnataka.
Shaw’s injury is not a good news for Mumbai and it would be a huge blow for the team if he doesn’t return to the ground.
