Delhi batsmen Nitish Rana and Dhruv Shorey hit centuries in their Vijay Hazare Trophy match against Puducherry on Tuesday at the Jaipuria Vidyalaya Ground in Jaipur.
It looked like Puducherry had pushed Delhi in the backfoot, having dismissed opener Shikhar Dhawan for six and Himmat Singh for a duck. However, Rana and Shorey were quick to build a steady partnership and take Delhi to 249/2 in 40 overs.
The solid first innings performance after Delhi’s loss to Mumbai by seven wickets in their last match that saw a ton from youngster Prithvi Shaw and a quick-fire fifty by Suryakumar Yadav, who recently got his maiden India call-up for the upcoming T20I series against England.
This year’s Vijay Hazare Trophy has seen some brilliant performances. Jharkhand wicketkeeper-batsman and captain Ishan Kishan on Saturday scored a 94-ball 173 that saw him hit 11 sixes and 19 fours. Shortly after, he too received his maiden national call-up along with Yadav and Haryana all-rounder Rahul Tewatia.
Tewatia on the other hand, celebrated his call-up in style, with a knock of 73 runs in 39 balls in Haryana’s match against Chandigarh.
