Virat Kohli, on Saturday, entertained the crowd chanting ‘ABD ABD’ with the South African batsman’s iconic reverse scoop. India are playing Sri Lanka at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, the home ground of Royal Challengers Bangalore – the IPL franchise Kohli led for a decade.

When Kohli came out to bat on day 1 of the second Test, he received a rousing welcome. He scored 23 runs off 48 balls with the help of two boundaries. A delivery from off-spinner Dhananjaya de Silva kept lower than expected to hit the 33-year-old’s front pad and he was given out.

A video emerged of Virat Kohli engaging with the spectators at the stadium. With the Indian team fielding, the crowd started chanting former RCB star AB de Villiers’ name. Hearing the chants, the former India captain mimicked one of the South African’s signature shots.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka were reduced to 86 for 6 in reply to India’s first innings total of 252 at stumps.  Angelo Mathews top-scored for Sri Lanka with a 85-ball 43 while all other visiting batters struggled to get going.

Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami took three and two wickets respectively while Axar Patel got one as Sri Lanka struggled throughout their first innings.

Sri Lanka trail by 166 runs.

Earlier, Shreyas Iyer struck 92 off 98 deliveries to help India post 252 all out in 59.1 overs after electing to bat.’ Wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant was the next highest contributor for India with a 26-ball 39 while Hanuma Vihari made 31.

For Sri Lanka, Lasith Embuldeniya and Praveen Jayawickrama took three wickets apiece while Dhananjaya de Silva got two.
