Bookings for the 2021 Volkswagen Taigun opened in August, which is also when the company began producing the vehicle.
Volkswagen India has set ambitious targets for the domestic auto sector, wanting to secure three percent market share in the Indian passenger vehicle business.
According to the company, 12,221 bookings have already been made for the Taigun, which is viewed as a “major milestone” for the product.
The Taigun line-up has two main lines — Dynamic, which has a 1.0 litre TSI engine, and Performance, which comes with a 1.5 litre TSI engine.
There are five variants in the Dynamic range, including Comfortline manual starting at Rs 10.50 lakh, Highline manual priced at Rs 12.80 lakh, Highline automatic, which will cost Rs 14.10 lakh, Topline manual starting at Rs 14.57 lakh and Topline automatic, which will cost Rs 15.91 lakh.
The Performance line, however, comprises only two variants – GT manual (Rs 15 lakh) and GT Plus automatic (Rs 17.50 lakh, all prices introductory, ex-showroom).
Scoring decently well on design, the new Volkswagen Taigun features a two-slat grille with chrome inserts, LED headlamps with integrated DRLs, fog lights, a chrome insert for the front and rear bumpers, brushed aluminium faux skid plates, 17-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, roof rails, LED tail lights, an integrated spoiler with a high-mounted stop lamp, and a shark-fin antenna.
