Raj Kundra, a well-known businessman, has recently made headlines after being arrested for creating pornographic content. Now, social media users have pulled India’s Test vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane into the centre of this controversial affair.

One of Rahane’s tweets from 2012, in which he lauded Raj Kundra, has gone viral. The cricketer and Kundra had an interaction on the microblogging website at the time, and the former could never have imagined that his tweet would cause such a stir, over a decade later.

“@TheRajKundra Sir you are doing a Great job,” Rahane had written in a tweet. Overwhelmed by the praises, Kundra commented: “@ajinkyarahane88 thanks so much. U must come and see it live.” The batsman then responded by saying: “@TheRajKundra yeah I wil for sure sir:).”

One might assume that this discussion on social media has nothing to do with Kundra’s case. But who is to say that social media users won’t view the discussion from a different perspective? Although humorously, people speculated that the right-handed batsman was well aware of the situation. It was only a matter of time until a slew of memes and altered posts flooded the internet.

For the uninitiated, Rahane formerly played for Rajasthan Royals player in the Indian Premier League, and Kundra was the team’s owner. With the Maharashtra-born player having been a key cog in the RR team for a long time, it appears that he and Kundra had a strong relationship. The partnership between the two, however, terminated after the 2015 season. The trolling match began when Rahane’s tweet went viral.

Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings were both given a two-year suspension from the lucrative tournament after Kundra was found guilty of betting.

The companies were facing being barred from participating in the IPL for the rest of time. RR returned in 2018, and Rahane managed the team for a couple of seasons before joining the Delhi Capitals camp.

Kundra was detained by Mumbai police’s crime division on Monday (July 19) in connection with the creation of pornographic films. The news of the businessman’s arrest drove social media into a frenzy, as he is a well-known celebrity and the husband of renowned actor Shilpa Shetty. Memes, GIFs, and other creatives have been shared by Twitter users to describe the situation.
