A forest guard in Bihar is being applauded for rescuing a highly venomous snake from a village in the Terai region of the Kishanganj district. While in most cases reptiles are killed, he used the opportunity to raise awareness among the villagers about peaceful co-existence with wildlife.

Forest guard Anil Kumar rescued a banded krait from Pharingola village and thanked the villagers for calling the officials and not killing the reptile. He also addressed the villagers on how humans should share space with other organisms and not feel threatened by them. His speech was captured on camera and is now going viral on social media.

He can be heard saying “We do not have to be scared. We have to be alert,” while talking to the villagers. Kumar said that just like humans, snakes too are a part of the ecosystem and that without their existence the life on earth is incomplete.

The video was shared on Twitter by IAS officer Dipak Kumar Singh Singh with the caption: “Together we can, Together we will! A Banded Krait, highly venomous, found in the Terai region, was successfully rescued by our forest officials from Pharingola village of Kishanganj, Bihar. Salute to Forest Guard, Anil Kumar for impromptu speech to create awareness.”

He is the principal secretary in Bihar’s Department of Environment Forest and Climate Change.

It has got more than 7,000 views so far on Twitter. The video shows Mr. Kumar surrounded by villagers at night and another person holding a bag containing the snake.

Anil Kumar informed that the rescued snake would be freed he requested the villagers to call the officials not to kill the snake if something like this ever happens again.
