Neeraj Chopra added another feather to his hat when he finished at the second place in the World Athletics Championships to win the silver medal in javelin throwing. The medal helped the 24-year-old to equal legendary Indian athlete Anju Bobby George’s two-decade old record of winning a medal at the World Athletics Championships, as Chopra became the second Indian to achieve the feat.
The Indian javelin thrower came second after he produced his best throw of 88.13 metres in the fourth attempt, behind rival Anderson Peters of Grenada in the top spot. Chopra also produced two fouls in the process and came up to the second spot gradually after beating Jakub Vadlejch of Czech Republic and Julian Weber of Germany.

The medal also marked Chopra’s fourth medal of the year, the last of which came at the Stockholm Diamond League 2022, also a silver. The Indian ace has been focusing on breaching the 90-metres threshold in the ongoing year, which will help join an elite list of javelin throwers in the world.
The gold medallist in men’s javelin throwing at the World Athletics Championships, Anderson Peters came up with consecutive 90+ metres throws, which helped him clinch the top spot in the list. Peters registered throws of 90.54, 90.21 and 90.46 metres in his first three attempts, with his best being in the first.
Neeraj Chopra, on the other hand, began the day with a foul throw. However, he came back to produce a 82.39 metres throw in the second attempt. The Olympic gold medallist came up with his best throw in the fourth attempt, when he threw a distance of 88.13 metres, winning the silver.
Chopra will be on display once again in the 2022 Commonwealth Games, which begins on July 28 in Birmingham, England.
