Haryana police on Saturday resorted to force and lathi charge against farmers protesting in Karnal after they reportedly tried to stop state BJP chief OP Dhankar's convoy ahead of a state-level party meeting on the upcoming municipal polls chaired by Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar. At least 10 farmers have been injured in the baton charge, reported PTI.

Following the police action, several farmers have blocked multiple roads across Haryana to protest the use of violence against other farmers in neighbouring Karnal district. The protests had reportedly affected traffic on roads in Kurukshetra, on the Delhi-Amritsar highway, and led to a jam at the Shambhu toll plaza leading to Ambala.
Several protesters present at the site near the Bastara toll plaza around 15 km from Karnal claimed to have witnessed 8-10 people sustain injuries in the police action.
Bharatiya Kisan Union leader Rakesh Tikait, who has been a front face of the long going farmers protest, said that all roads in Haryana will be blocked till 5 pm Friday to protest the baton charge in Haryana's Karnal.
Commissionerate of Panchkula tweeted that Surajpur Toll Plaza (Kalka-Zirakpur Highway) was blocked by protesting farmers. Traffic on roads in Kurukshetra, on the Delhi-Amritsar highway, and led to a jam at the Shambhu toll plaza leading to Ambala was also disrupted due to the protest.
Meanwhile, police in its defence, said that the protesters were bent on moving towards the venue of the BJP meeting in Karnal. All roads leading to the venue had been heavily barricaded.
According to PTI, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and state BJP president Om Prakash Dhankar were present in the meeting held later today.
