Former India captain Rahul Dravid has quite a fan following in India for his gentlemanly demeanour both on and off the field. The right-handed batsman used to make headlines on a daily basis for his towering batting stature and after his retirement, he still manages to make news, albeit for different reasons.

The shy and soft-spoken Dravid we knew came out to be false if one remembers his “Indiranagar ka gunda” avatar.

Addressed as “the wall”, the Indian great this time made the headline, courtesy of British High Commissioner to India Alex Ellis.

Ellis, in a video uploaded on his official Twitter account, can be seen asking Dravid to teach him to say a cricket expression in Kannada.

“England and India are playing each other and I am on the hunt for the best Indian cricket expressions. We have come to Bangalore and we have come to one of the greatest players to have played the game and he’s going to teach me and you one phrase in the language of the state – Kannada,” the official can be heard saying in the video.

The video was captioned: “Cricket expressions in Indian languages part 2. Today, we’re down south in Bengaluru. What better teacher than ‘The Coach’ #RahulDravid, who taught me this in #Kannada ಕನ್ನಡ.”

Dravid obliged and taught the diplomat to say “one run” in Kannada – “Bega Odi”.

This is the diplomat’s second attempt to learn Indian languages. In a previous video, Ellis tried his hand at learning Hindi with a dash of Tamil.

Here’s the video:

On the work front, Rahul Dravid completed an international assignment as he coached the Shikhar Dhawan-led Indian cricket team in their six-match white-ball series against Sri Lanka.

The six-match white ball series included three One-day Internationals (ODIs) and three Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is).

While India won the ODI series 2-1, they were cast to a 1-2 defeat in the T20I series.

Dravid, in his career, has scored 13,288 in Tests, and 10,889 in ODIs. In his First-Class career, he has amassed a total of 23,794 runs.
