With the state of Tamil Nadu still reeling from the aftermath of the cyclone Nivar, visuals from the city of Madurai on Saturday showed toxic foam floating on parts of the Vagai river and the Sellur pond.

Heavy rains lashed the city on Friday, with water levels rising in the river and pond, with the mixing of toxic affluents in the river and rain water causing the formation of the foam, ANI reported.

Watch as fire department officials scatter the foam by spraying water from a bridge in the Sellur area of Madurai.
