Ahead
of the West Bengal assembly elections, Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata
Banerjee on Thursday said the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is interfering in the functioning of
the election commission adding that TMC’s victory cannot be prevented even if the election body transfers all the state officials.

“The
way BJP is interfering in the functioning of EC, it appears to be a BJP
commission but I
am telling you (EC) transfer all (officials) that will not prevent our victory
Because people are with us,” PTI quoted Banerjee as saying while addressing a rally in Dantan.
She made the allegations in reference to the large-scale transfer of Bengal’s senior officials by the commission in the past few days. The EC ordered the transfer of five officers in the state, including an additional director general of police and directed that they will not be given any poll-related assignment, PTI reported citing official sources.

According to PTI, Those transferred are ADG West Zone Sanjay Singh, DCP (South Kolkata) Sudhir Neelkantha, SP (Cooch Behar) K Kannan, SP (Diamond Harbour) Avijit Banerjee and district election officer of Jhargram Ayesha Rani.
The
chief minister further added that while she has “great respect for election commission,” she would
like to question the poll panel on “why police forces are under the control
of Centre during Lok Sabha and assembly polls. Why not under EC ?”

The TMC chief also accused EC of adopting a step-mother like attitude towards her government and said that she is bothered even if the body sends her 10 letters.
Banerjee also said
the EC was “not doing the right thing by cornering her regional party and any other such party in the fashion.
“BJP
has lost the match and hence has resorted to the game of changing officers.
Officers don’t vote, people vote,” she reasoned.
