The 2022 ICC Under 19 Men’s Cricket World Cup in 2022 will feature 16 countries in 48 matches as the West Indies are set to host the tournament’s 15 edition for the first time from January 14 to February 5. Some of the reigning superstars of the game such as India’s Virat Kohli, Pakistan’s Babar Azam, England’s Joe Root, Australia’s Steve Smith, and New Zealand’s Kane Williamson first captured the imagination of the cricketing world with performances in past editions of the tournament.

“The ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup is such an exciting and special tournament, bringing together the future stars of the game and giving them an unrivalled experience of competing on the global stage,” said ICC Head of Events, Chris Tetley in a press release. “We are looking forward to the 2022 edition to see who emerges as the future stars.

ICC tournaments return to Pakistan with Champions Trophy 2025

Tetley said the ICC was delighted that the West Indies will be hosting the event for the firs time.

The tournament will utilise ten venues in four Caribbean countries – Antigua and Barbuda, Guyana, St Kitts and Nevis and Trinidad and Tobago.

Scotland will replace New Zealand who had to withdraw due to the mandatory quarantine restrictions for minors that they would have faced on their return journey from the tournament.

Cricket West Indies President Ricky Skerritt said in a statement that it hadn’t been easy to finalise the venues and to work out all the related logistics amid “so many Covid-related challenges.”
