Just seconds past 4 pm on April 28 when Covid-19 vaccine registrations for all above 18 started, Co-Win, the vaccination portal crashed. Even people who had downloaded the application in advance could not register as the OTP didn’t work. So what is the Co-Win app and how does it work?

For years now, India has been using a vaccine intelligence system called eVIN (electronic vaccine intelligence network) for immunisation, which provides real-time feedback of vaccine stocks, power outages, temperature fluctuations etc. Co-WIN is just and an extension of the network. It is a cloud-based IT solution for planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of Covid-19 vaccination in India.

Here’s how you can register on Co-WIN platform:

1. Head to cowin.gov.in and click on Register/Sign in Yourself.

2. Enter your mobile number and select Get OTP. Once the OTP is in, enter the received password on the site and click Verify.

3. Upload all your details, including your photo ID proof on the Register for Vaccination page. Click on Register. Then you’ll get an option to schedule an appointment.

5. Enter your pin code and click Search. For eg, if you stay in Noida sector 46 so you will search for 201303 and the vaccination centres in the area will show up on your screen. Select the date and time and confirm your appointment.

6. You can add up to four members with one login. You can also reschedule your appointment if necessary.
