Droupadi Murmu became the 15th President of India when she defeated Yashwant Sinha in the elections on July 21. She has also become the first tribal President of the country.

Droupadi Murmu began her career as a ward councillor and rose to become the Governor of Jharkhand. Murmu faced career bureaucrat and former Union minister Yashwant Sinha, the joint Opposition’s choice for the presidency, in the presidential elections, however, reigned supreme to succeed Ram Nath Kovind.

Salary

The President of India earns a monthly salary of Rs. 5 lakh. The President of India is the country’s highest-paid employee.

Previously, the President was paid Rs 150,000 per month. The monthly payment was increased to Rs 500,000. Other benefits are not included in the salary.

President Ram Nath Kovind stated two years ago that he receives a salary of Rs. 5 lakh, but a large portion of it is deducted as income tax according to DNA India.

The President lives in the Rashtrapati Bhawan, President’s Estate, New Delhi. The President of India can also choose between two retreats: The Retreat Building in Shimla and Rashtrapati Nilayam in Hyderabad.

Car

The President usually travels in high-end vehicles. The vehicles also have cutting-edge security systems. The vehicle is bulletproof and shockproof. It does not have a licence plate, instead of which, the national symbol, the Ashoka Pillar is displayed . Ramnath Kovind is chauffeured in a Mercedes Maybach S600 Pullman Guard. According to reports, the car can withstand bullets, bombs, gas attacks, and other explosives.

Security

The president is protected by the President’s Bodyguard, an elite unit of the Indian Armed Forces. They are mostly from the three branches of the military and are elite soldiers.

President’s incentives

A president is entitled to a pension of at least Rs 1.5 lakh per year. The President’s spouse is paid Rs 30,000 per month. They also get to live in a rent-free bungalow. They can employ up to five people.
