Shraddha Walkar
filed a police complaint against Aftab Amin Poonawala, her 28-year-old live-in
partner who is accused of her murder, in 2020, a Mumbai-based friend of the
deceased told ANI. Rahul Rai, the friend, said, “In 2020, we all helped her in
filing FIR after she reached out to us for help saying Aftab beats her at home.”

“The police
officer suggested detaining Aftab for interrogation but she said such things
happen in a relationship,” Rai told ANI.

Shraddha Walkar,
26, was strangled to death allegedly by her live-in partner in May this year.
The accused, Aftab, allegedly cut her dead body into 35 pieces and spread them

Shraddha and Aftab
got into a relationship in 2018. It was in 2019, that Shraddha’s friends say,
that she reached out to them saying Aftab beat her. In 2020, Shraddha’s friends
helped her lodge a police complaint.

Explaining why
Shraddha might have budged on making the police call in Aftab for interrogation,
Rahul Rai said Shraddha was probably scared that Aftab would kill her if he
came to know that she had gone to the police.

“She said Aftab
already tried to kill her before and beaten her multiple times. She mentioned
that Aftab locked her in a room and had another affair. Aftab used drugs too,”
Rai told ANI.

maintaining that such things happen in a relationship.

Dr SP Shinde, a
doctor at Nalasopara’s Ozone Multispecialty Hospital, has claimed that Shraddha
Walkar was hospitalised in 2020 with severe pain in her shoulder and back, but
there was no extreme injury. Aftab was with her when Shraddha was hospitalised.

Shraddha and Aftab
had moved into a rental apartment in Delhi’s Mehrauli in May, moving there from
Mumbai. Both of them worked at call centres.
