The Sputnik V vaccine will be available in India as soon as it gets a go-ahead by the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI).  The center approved emergency use of the Russian COVID-19 vaccine on Monday.  The news comes on a day when India recorded 1,68,912 new COVID-19 cases, the highest single-day rise. 

The Subject Expert Committee (SEC) of the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) on Monday took up the application of Dr Reddy%u2019s Laboratories seeking emergency use authorization for Sputnik V. Dr Reddy’s Laboratories, a Hyderabad-based company, is expecting to activate the use of Sputnik V by June 2021.

After Covishield and Covaxin, this will become the third Covid-19 vaccine to be used in the country.

Registering a steady increase for the 33rd day in row, the active cases have increased to 12,01,009 comprising 8.88% of the total infections, while the recovery rate has further dropped to 89.86%. The national COVID-19 recovery rate has fallen below 90%.

India has vaccinated 10.45 crore people according to data published by the Union health ministry on Monday. The government has declared a vaccine festival from April 11 to April 14. On Day 1 of Tika Utsav, the government said 30 lakh doses were administered.
