The Green Lantern refers to a number of DC superheroes who fight
evil using the powers that come to them with the aid of rings. They are the
members of the Green Lantern Corps who were once a group of 3,600 members. They
acted as the Guardians of the Universe by performing the role of an
intergalactic police force.

The ring is controlled by willpower and its abilities have
never been properly defined by the creators. Some things that are known are that
all of its effects emit a green light, the wearers can travel at superfast
speed. However, it does not possess the power of automatic healing.

The ring’s power is directly proportional to the willpower
of the person wearing it which means that the power of each Green Lantern
varies greatly.

Alan Scott

A green flame meteor had fell on Earth in ancient China and
it was prophesied to act three times – to bring death, to bring life and to
bring power. Alan Scott came in possession of the lantern after a railroad bridge
collapse, of which he was the sole survivor.

Scott was instructed by the flame to make the ring which
brought him magical powers that helped him save the Earth by fighting evil. He
was one of the founding members of the Justice Society of America.

He was given possession of the ring by Abin Sur, a dying
alien who’s ring led him to an utterly honest individual born without fear.
Jordan was a founding member of the Justice League and a member of the Green
Lantern Corps.

Under the possession of Parallax he went insane and completely
destroyed the Green Lantern Corps. He was a cause of trouble for the DC
Universe for several years.
