As part of its efforts to expand its presence in Northeast India, Israel has recently announced Joyshree Das Verma as its Honorary Consul to the North East of India. 

Joyshree Verma is known as one of the most prominent entrepreneurs of the Northeast. She led the northeast chapter of the Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industries (FICCI) Ladies Organisation (FLO) in 2015-16. As the chairperson, Verma took steps to bring women entrepreneurs from the grassroots to the forefront.

She is honoured to be appointed the Honorary Consul and said, %u201CI am immensely honoured and humbled to represent Israel as Honorary Consul for the North-Eastern states. This all-encompassing role excites me greatly as there are vast possibilities and opportunities to leverage Israel%u2019s technology and expertise in various areas. I am pledged to work in the best interests of Assam and all the North-Eastern states.%u201D

Verma will be overseeing the jurisdictions of Nagaland, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Assam, Sikkim and Tripura. She will be based out of Assam. 

The  Israel Ambassador to India, Dr Ron Malka had visited Meghalaya, Tripura and Assam with the chief ministers. The foundation stone of the Center of Excellence (CoE) for Vegetables in Khetri, Assam was also laid down on this visit.
