Samajwadi Party founder Mulayam Singh Yadav died aged 82 on Monday. He was being treated at Gurugram’s Medanta Hospital where he died between 8 am and 8:30 am.

Mulayam had become extremely critical on Saturday and was getting life-saving treatment, the hospital had indicated in a health advisory.

Mulayam Singh Yadav served as Uttar Pradesh’s chief minister three times. He established the Samajwadi Party on October 4, 1992. Akhilesh Yadav, Mulayam’s eldest son was born to him and his first wife Malti Devi, whom he married in 1957.

Mulayam married Sadhna Gupta after Malti Devi’s death in 2003.  Prateek Yadav, Sadhna’s son from a previous relationship, is Mulayam’s stepson.

Who is Prateek Yadav?

Prateek Yadav, a fitness expert, was born in 1987. He is Akhilesh Yadav’s half-brother and Mulayam Singh Yadav’s stepson. He was born to Sadhna Gupta and Chandra Prakash Gupta.

Prateek’s mother Sadhna Gupta later married Mulayam Singh, reportedly on May 23, 2003.

His academic credentials include an MBA from Leeds University in London. Prateek is also well-known for his YouTube channels and videos. He currently manages the largest gym in Uttar Pradesh located in Lucknow, which Mulayam Singh Yadav inaugurated.

Prateek has more than 258k Instagram followers and owns a Lamborghini worth more than Rs 5 crore.

He frequently claims that he is uninterested in politics and that he prefers to avoid it. Prateek may not be keen on pursuing politics, but he does follow Mulayam’s footsteps when it comes to bodybuilding.

Before entering politics, Mulayam Singh, also known as ‘netaji’ or leader, was a well-known ‘pehelwan,’ or bodybuilder. He actually won the lightweight wrestling district championship, and even after getting into politics, he continued to participate in the ‘akhada.’

Prateek married his long-time friend Aparna Yadav in 2011. Aparna joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in January 2022 just before the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections.
